However, I feel the team has too many players who do not start for their respective teams. Mendy, CHO and Cantwell are players I would like to get rid of.

Captain

At least Salah did not blank, but I should have gone with the obvious captain choice of Vardy. This would have given an extra 4 points.

Salah did close the gap on the target. Hopefully, over the next few weeks, when LIV has a good run of fixtures, he can outperform the target.

Transfer

Abraham immediately returned an extra 6 points over Wilson. However, Jimenez returned 7 points extra.

If I had taken the hit, which I contemplated then I would have been better off by a further 5 points!

Position Performance

Pope’s excellent 9 points closed the gap on his target.

Again, for the fifth game week in a row, I was only able to field four defenders as Mendy did not make the MCI squad. He was a bad transfer in GW1. I was tempted by the allure of his home fixture to SOT. In hindsight, I should have picked one of the LEI defenders.

Preview

Guiding Principles

  • Premium Goalkeeper. (Better value for money and no weekly decision on who to bench). Now modified to one set and forget goalkeeper.
  • Five premium defenders at the back. (Best value for money). Now modified to four premium and one other but playing all five.
  • Only one premium MID/FWD. (Can only captain one per week and money saved can be spread through team).
  • Minimise decisions.

Talking Point

This week was mostly spent pondering who to bring in out of Abraham and Jimenez for Wilson. By taking an 8-point hit I could have brought them both in.

Wilson to Abraham

Greenwood to Jimenez

CHO to Dendoncker

However, I think that would have been excessive, especially just before an international break. The hit would only be worth it if they stay in my team for the long term. Who knows what will happen to them during the IB? If they picked up an injury another transfer would be required to replace them.

By the way the formation would change to an unorthodox 523 with only Salah and KDB in midfield. I’m still playing 5@TheBack.

This is how the three forwards compare, over the season, in terms of ICT Index, Creativity and Threat.

Abraham has had a greater threat.

Jimenez has been the most creative.

Wilson has lagged behind the other two.

As I could not decide between them, I went with bringing them both in, but not both this week. Abraham first, then roll the transfer in GW13, so that I will have two transfers towards a mini-wildcard in GW14. At which point I will make these moves:

Greenwood     to         Jimenez           SHU, WHU, bha, TOT, nor

CHO                 to         Hayden            MCI, shu, SOU, bur, CRY

Mendy             to         PVA                  bur, BOU, WAT, bha, new

At the moment there is £0.2m to cover any further price changes.

Captain

So far, I have always captained Salah. This week LIV have their toughest home fixture against MCI. He has had some sort of injury and the popular Vardy is at home to ARS.

However, MCIs defence may not be at their best as Ederson will miss out due to injury. I am going to keep the armband on Salah.

Bench

Tempted to start Cantwell as NOR is at home to WAT tonight. Anyway playing 5@TheBack and will make him first sub. In the last four game weeks one of the defenders has not played and so the first sub has been used. It will just be like it this week for Cantwell to return double figures and all five defenders get a game!
